The Brazilian Microwave and Optoelectronics Society – SBMO, founded on 12 July 1982, is a nonprofit scientific organization which brings together individuals and legal entities interested in the science and technology of microwave and optoelectronics and their applications.
SBMO aims to disseminate and foster knowledge in the field of microwave and optoelectronics through courses, seminars, conferences, publications and other means. It promotes exchanges with other organizations, institutes and industries, and collaborate with government agencies regarding issues and projects in the field.
Since 1984 the SBMO organizes national and international events on a biennial basis: the Brazilian Microwave and Optoelectronics Symposium (MOMAG), every even year, in partnership with the Brazilian Society of Electromagnetism (SBMag) since 2004; and the International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference (IMOC), every odd year, in partnership with the IEEE-MTT-Society since 1995. SBMO also sponsors and edits, jointly with SBMag, the Journal of Microwaves, Optoelectronics and Electromagnetic Applications (JMOe).
